Covão da Ametade
Covão da Ametade is, without a doubt, one of the most iconic and symbolic places in Serra da Estrela. It is an ancient lake of glacial origin with surrounding landscapes made up mostly of birch trees that create an ecosystem with enormous biodiversity and that should and can be explored by the visitor. The setting is fantastic and full of bucolic and poetic feeling. Relaxing, intimate, mystical and surprising. In fact, it’s not easy to find a single adjective that can, by itself, qualify this paradisiacal place.
This place is very attracted by climbers, groups of hikers, adventurers and sportsmen who start, here, their walks and climbs along the hollows and rock formations. On the other hand, it also attracts many families looking for rest and relaxation.
The site is accessible throughout the year, however, as it is at a high altitude (1500 meters), during the winter period access to the site may be restricted due to snowfall.
Where is it located?
Covão da Ametade is not right next to the Mondego Walkways. In fact, you still have to make a journey of about 1 hour (from Videmonte) if you want to visit this fantastic place. It is located at 1420 meters of altitude, at the foot of the Cântaro Magro and at the beginning of the Glacier Valley, where the River Zêzere begins to take shape.
